The son of the first post soviet era President Tsotne Gamsakhurdia is detained with gun assault charges. The victim, his neighbor Davit Bajelidze is hospitalized with gunshot in the stomach area. The incident happens last night at the "Kolkhuri Koshki" (Kolchian Tower) in his neighbor area. The witnesses say that after the mutual quarrel at the street, Tsotne Gamsakhurdia came to the home of Bajelidze and wounded him with the gunshot. The neighbors say that they were quarreling several times for the last period.
Last night Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was held in police office in the Vera district for the interrogation. After long ours of interrogation he was delivered to the preliminary detention isolator (pre-trial detention).
At the moment of the crime Tsotne Gamsakhurdia already has a previous conviction, he has suspended sentence on Article 315 of Criminal Code (coup-d'état)
Georgia's former president Zviad Gamsakhurdia, a persecuted prisoner of conscience in Soviet times, died in mysterious circumstances in 1993, aged 54, two years after being ousted from Georgia. He afterwards was replaced by Eduard Shevardnadze.
As for the injured Bajelidze, he hospitalized to the Republican Hospital late last night. The patient is still being held in the intensive treatment department. He was operated on late last night. He has injuries in his head too.
