Even before the August conflict Russia was playing a hidden game in Georgia, trying to return its previous sphere of influence. Russia was feeding with military armament secessionists in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The USA diplomats revealed this in its confidential correspondence with Washington that was published by WikiLeaks recently, GHN reports.
A year before the conflict in August 2007 USA envoy to Tbilisi John Taft wrote in his report , for the several past years he gathered many proofs for such activity of Kremlin that were directed to destabilizing of the situation in Georgia and for the Georgian President's resignation. USA envoy as well wrote to Washington about Moscow's desire to return Georgia under own influence. "The absolute priority of Russia is a broadening of the sphere of influence and the integration with the neighbor states. "We should  show to Abkhazia and to South Ossetia, - envoy said, - that for them more advantageous is to be autonomous republics within the Georgian state than to be totally dependent upon Russia. He suggests making attention to the international economic support to Georgia and to the international observation missions in Georgia. In such case Moscow will be cautious in straining the situation in Caucasus. Georgia cannot return own territories by force, But it can became a democratic and economically reformed country for the all Caucasian region. If USA will be consent for the strong military cooperation with Tbilisi, Russia will not be weaker in its position.
