The Christian-Democrates are considering that the WTO demand about unconditional fulfillment about taxes unification for tobacco goods, may cause the situation when the tobacco manufacture in Gerogia may be destroyed completely, and as a consequence thousand of people may became unemployed.
The question touches the WTO demand about the equal tariffs (excise) for imported and locally manufactured tobacco goods.
Giorgi Targamadze, leader of Christian-Democrates declared that his movement is categorically against the fulfillment of this demand of WTO. He believes that this will cause the bancrupcy of tobacco manufacture and unemployment of the people working in this area. At the same time he said that the Budget will suffer from this decision as well. Targamadze said that the "Christian-Democrates" already had the consultations with the experts in economics and they developed the suggestions for this issue. These suggestions will satisfy the WTO demands without damages for the local tobacco manufacture.
"This will save the homeland manufacture from the buncrapcy and thousand of working places will be saved in the tobacco manufacture," - Targamadze said. Christian-Democrates will pass this suggestion to the government and will discuss it in the high legislative body.
The State Budget annually receives more than GEL 250 mn from the tobacco manufacture. In the tobacco industry 8 thousand people are working.
