Mikhail Machavariani, first deputy Parliamentary Chairman estimated the Georgia's 103 place in the Democracy Index. "This denotes that we have to work hard and we will do this, "- he said.
"For the development of the country as a democratic one the legislative body works with the media owners and with the Elections Code. We decided to change not only some part of it but to conduct the elections in 2012 in full transparency and democratic environment, "- Machavariani noted. He said that Georgia has chosen already the democratic way however many things are to be done and President and the government are working in this direction. The progress in view of democracy is noticeable, journalists and the public believe that Georgia has to be on the first place everywhere. We promise that we will succeed in this area in several years.
The Economist Intelligence Unit, analytical research company of the British journal " The Economist" published the Democracy Index 2010.
The publication gives the information about the state's democracy level for the November of 2010. Among 167 countries Georgia is on the 103 place.
The democracy index shoes the democracy level in the country and is based on the methodology of experts' estimations. The index is based upon the 5 main indicators. Among them are elections code and pluralism, governmental activity, political participation, political culture and civil freedoms. Democracy index divides 167 countries in 4 groups according to the governmental regime. The first group countries are where a full democracy is, second - lack of democracy, third - a hybrid regime, forth - authoritarian regime. Georgia is in the third group of countries - hybrid regime . Such countries as Mozambique, Uganda, Liberia, Venezuela beat Georgia in this rating.
