If the foreign country will commit a terrorist act against Russian Federation, Russia will defend itself with armed forces and with other means. This declaration was made by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in answering the questions of Indian students in the Technological Institute.
"If the foreign country will commit a terroristic action against Russian Federation and we will be sure that those terrorists are under the foreign country's patronage, we will defend our national interests and will use our armed forces and other possibilities that we have for the security of our country, let's nobody doubt about this, " - Medvedev said. He added that in some cases Russia is obliged to defend the life of people with any possible means. "Our legislation gives such power to the President, "- Medvedev said. In this context he mentioned Georgia; he said Russia was obliged to defend from the military attack from Georgia in 2008 August.
"This was a military attack from the neighbor country, from Georgia in 2008. At this time as a result of the Georgia's military aggression more than 50 Russian peacekeepers died. They were at the self declared Republic's territory South Ossetia. We has to respond. All these invoked the sharp reaction in the world; however I am not doubt that we were acting fairly. And all our decisions were in the frames of all legal norms. Because we were defending the life of Russian citizens and those people who lived at our side, " - Medvedev said. He noted any state has such right.
"The state himself has to decide in what cases it will use this right and in what case it will refrain from actions. Nevertheless till all peaceful ways are not exhausted the military actions are inadmissible Russian President said.
