The Life News published some pages of the book with the permission of author. Dmitri Rogozin describes the first minutes of 08.08.08, and what he was doing at this moment, when it became known that Mikhail Saakashvili declared the war to South Ossetia.
"...I wake my wife and asked her to pack up immediately. I luckily catched the appropriate flight to Brussels which was shedulded in two hours. My wife wished to see off me. We get a car and drived to the airport on the empty highway, which was brightly illuminated with sun.
My task is to prevent the NATO from the reckless steps and not to allow the Georigan adventurers to provoke the third world war. I needed all my people on their places. And all who were on the August holidays out of Brussels, I called them back. ..
... just at the minute when my car moved from Brussels airport, John Creddok, NATO Supreme commander-in-chief called me by phone:
-Hi, envoy, were are you now?
-I am already in Brussels General. And were are You?
-I am sunning myself on the beach...
-Keep it, General.
NATO will never fight with Russia. Being at the Brussels as an envoy at the "military-political monster", I finally get it. But of course with the one exception, - if Russia will be strong and independent. The West cares for its cloudless life and because of this will not risk it. Russia is a big problem for the West, and the source of constant irritation and fear, "- the book of Rogozin reads.
