Peter Semneby expired his terms of Office as a Special Representative in Caucasus. After 5 years of service he will be replaced by new diplomat. He holds a final Press Conference and summarized the work. He believes that Georgia has a right political direction, and it is necessary to strengthen democratic institutions even more.
"For the last 5 years EU actively participated in resolving of any crisis situation in Georgia. I mean first of all the 2008 August war. I believe that we make a considerable contribution to the stability of the country. For the restoration of relations with Russian Federation it is necessary that both sides make compromises. For the restoration of relations with Abkhazia and S.O. the direct dialogues should start. "
Semneby was appointed for the post on September 20 of 2006.
