Today on March 5 at 13:00 the youth organization of Young Free Democrats will hold a protest action in front of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance. They will protest the existing situation in the penitential system.
"In 2010 on October 20 we applied to Khatuna Kalmakhelidze, Corrections Minister in writing. We asked her to get interested with the facts of torture of prisoners. Nevertheless, according to the information that we got from prisons and prisoners' relatives the situation did not change," - Sulkhan Ghlonti, Young Free Democrats leader declared.
He underlined that the existence of prisoners, its living conditions are unbearable. In addition to this they are under constant pressure and physical assault from the prison's administration.
"We, Young Free Democrats decided to open the internet campaign "Do not forget prisoner". Under this heading in facebook the page is opened. All facts are given there in connection with prisoners' human rights violations. We wish the society will get interested with the prisoners' conditions and we will stand together to protest the inhuman conditions in which prisoners are kept in the Georgian penitential system. We will try to make this internet campaign effective and to attract Georgian citizens and as well international organizations, "- Ghlonti said.
