Tbilisi will not compromise its principles for Russia's WTO affiliation. But Russian Federation will be forced to compromise for WTO membership. Mikhail Saakashvili said in his exclusive interview for the blog The Cable at the magazine web page "Foreign Policy", news agency GHN reports. He as well not forget that Russia was trying to negotiate with USA for WTO membership in the frames of reset policy avoiding Georgia's consent in this question.
"They said to Americans we will negotiate with you, but Georgia will be one point of negotiations. I have heard from some Russians, for making Saakashvili to shut up, one Biden's phone call is enough. Nevertheless Americans did not do this and indicated to Russian Federation that no such agreements will be made. Saakashvili underlined that this position of USA forced Moscow to agree for negotiations with Georgia, this is a big progress in the case, NEWSru.com informs.
The first round of Russian-Georgian negotiations about Russian Federation's affiliation to WTO was held in March in Bern over the mediation of Switzerland, as no direct dialogue exists between Russia and Georgia after the August war conflict in 2008. The second round will be held in May. Saakashvili said the preliminary proposals of Russian Federation concerning only the goods export to Russian Federation are not the point. Tbilisi will demand the transparency in customs regulations questions at the border, and this is far more serious than an export of Georgian wine. Saakashvili as well promised to pose only economic questions for the negotiations, but Russia turns any question to the political one.
Saakashvili as well noted that Georgia is willing to buy from USA the heavy military technique, but the USA authorities have an unofficial embargo for such type of provisions. Nevertheless Senator John Mc Cain said "we are not interested to leave Georgia - one of the most faithful partners, which aspires to NATO membership , without the ability to defend itself as necessary.
