I consider it very questionable that Georgia would ever recognize Abkhazia, Marika Lortkipanidze, academician in history said in connection with Mamuka Areshidze's initiative.

In conversation with news agency GHN she said that Apsua (name of  Abkhazian ethnos) should think about the question - if they will not be with Georgians they will not exist at all. She underlined maybe Mamuka Areshidze, expert in Caucasian questions has some information as he made a presentation for the initiative for recognition of Abkhazia.

"Mamuka Areshidze is clever and seems like he owns some information much more than I have. At the same time he is a patriot of own country. Nevertheless I consider it very questionable that Georgia will recognize Abkhazia. He is right that a terrible situation may happen if we will not recognize Abkhazia. I recall the situation from our history - the Tao-Klarjeti. I am afraid we will get in such situation, this may happen. For Georgia the recognition of independence will not be advantageous. But I will say one thing that Abkhazians should consider that if Abkhazians will join Russia or will quit from the Georgian state or remain in the situation they are now, and not be with us - they will disappear as a nation. Abkhazians - Apsua are Georgians, "- Marika Lortkipanidze said.

She noted that if Abkhazians still keep its language and national identity this is only thanks to Georgia that they were part of Georgia. They should understand this.
