Gigi Ugulava, City Mayor accuses the Russian edition "News week" in some errors in his interview. The City Hall published the statement, that in the interview published in ‘News Week' are many mistakes.
"It is notable that in the interview the declaration of City Mayor about the refusing to enter NATO in exchange for the withdrawal of Russian occupational forces form Georgian territory, is not properly stated. Gigi Ugulava never said that the aspiration for NATO is questionable and this issue might be a subject for dealing.
The NATO membership is a strong wish of Georgian people, which was approved in January 5 of 2007 following the plebiscite. Mayor has no right, no intention to ignore the decision of Georgian people. Moreover Tbilisi Mayor is a strong supporter of the NATO membership and he believes that this is a main element of Georgian foreign policy, "- the statement reads.
We remind you that the Russian "News Week" stated that according to G. Ugulava's declaration: if Russia withdraws armed forces from Abkhazia and S.O., in turn Georgia refuses to enter NATO.
