The granting of the legal status for the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia was not an expression of Georgian authorities' good will, GHN reports. The chair o the democratic movement "Javakhk" Norik Karapetian said at the joint press conference with Davit Rstakian, the leader of unregistered political party in Georgia "Virk", the Armenia today said.
He said this decision was taken under the influence of a Catholic Church which made pressure over Georgian authorities.
‘The Armenian factor was used because there is a pressure from West and Europe, "- he said and noted that visits of the Armenian Foreign Minister and Cathalocos of All Armenians were playing a role in this process. Rstakian was satisfied that at least the status was granted for the Armenian Church. At the same time he said many undecided questions were left among them the educational problems of Armenian people in Georgia, the culture problems and social economic problems.
He said that the problems were raised earlier in 1990's, but they are decided in talks but not in actions. He underlined the problem of education, and the problem of bilingual schools.
He said that they voted for the independence of Georgia with the condition that in turn Armenians would get a cultural autonomy in Georgia. The Armenian population cannot get jobs in Georgia as the knowledge of Georgian language is necessary everywhere.
