The Bill passed by Parliament which stipulated the granting for religions in Georgia a corporate body status of the public law, caused much controversies. Georgian Patriarch asked President to veto this Bill. Notwithstanding this the Bill already signed by President and consequently it is enforced. One part of the society connects this with the initial interference of Armenian Church. Some say that the visit of Armenian Partech recently was connected with this question. GHN asked estimation of this situation to Marika Lortkipanidze, academician in history.
She said the legislation should not be passed so speedily and unconsidered. This legislation puts in a very disadvantageous position our Orthodox religion. This was inappropriate decision. They did not take into consideration the opinion of our Patriarch. At the same time the agreement between Church and Georgian Government was as well breached. In such circumstances the doubt arises that this decision was in someone's interests, but not in the interests of Georgia and Orthodox Church.
The Armenian Church declared that this was only one part of the agreement, what would be a second. The agreement between Georgian government and Armenian side was as if granting the same status for Armenian Church in Georgia which will be granted for Georgian Church in Armenia. But the Armenian Church refused this. The Armenian Church wishes the legal status it wishes all Armenian Churches which are in Georgia under own property rights. It wishes to get a right over the land. When Patriarch asked President to veto this decision, he refused to do this, for this the Armenian side thanked our President.
There are not any problems between Georgian and Armenian Churches which are to be regulated. Armenians cannot say that they are in oppression in Georgia. No facts exist of oppression on the religious or national grounds in Georgia. So the demands to have wider rights in Georgia are absolutely groundless. But for the President this as seems is acceptable.
To the point, according to the British edition "Britannica" the Georgian alphabet was created by Mesrop Mashtots, Armenian enlightenment. But this question is disputable. Firstly under the question is the fact is he the scientist of 5 century. Some scientists believe that his writings are of the later period. His writings are overwritten later, as well some facts are added. At the same time he did not knew Georgian language how could he create a Georgian alphabet. They said that after this he moved to Albania and created the Albanian Alphabet as well. No reasons to consider this statement right without asksing the other side, the other state. The British comprehensive approah to such sensitive quetions fail this time. But this idea as well is very welcome in Europe and in USA.
This is a matter of much money spend by Armenian Diaspora abroad. We cannot do anything against this. It would be better I would not have seen this at all.
