Mitropolite Seraphime said the Holy Synod discussed today the Georgian Civil Code amendments concerning legal status of religious organizations. Lasha Tordia, head Law Committee was invited to the Patriarchy for interpretation of the Concordat concluded earlier. Mitropolite of Borjomi-Bakurian Seraphime said the patriarchy expressed some opinion concerning the new amendments in the Civil Code.
"The government representatives said us that other religious confessions will not be equaled to the Orthodox Church through amendments passed. As well they said no property will be passed to them. The government officials say the change of a law is now impossible but the amendments could be made. The Orthodox religion's rights will be considered by other religious confessions, "- Mitropolite Seraphime said.
He said the Synod does not ask about the abolishment of a law, as Parliament strictly against this. Synod has no power to do this. The law depends on interpretation, Seraphime said.
