Sopho Khorguani, member of Georgian Party talks about the danger of Botanic garden extinction. She said the presupposition for this is that the Ministry of Education and Science ceased financing of the Institute based on the Botanic Garden. Nevertheless the state budget allocated GEL 30 mn for support of science. She as well considers alarming that more than 200 employees of the Botanic Garden were left jobless.
"It is very dangerous that the Botanic Garden is to be passed to the Tbilisi City Hall. We are protesting against this decision, for danger of its sale. This Garden is a historic heritage of our city, "- Khorguani said.
She noted while at the briefing at the entrance of the Botanic Garden on July 21 that the unique garden was constructed in 17-th century and more than 3500 different kinds of flora from the world regions are presented here.
"Factually one more president of governmental corruption is happening now. It may happen that the unique plants will be cut off and instead of them on the place some market will be constructed by the group close to the Gigi Ugulava, "- she said.
Khorguani demands explanations from the Ministry of Education and Science for absence of financing of this unique institute and obligatory statement from the City Hall about its intentions for the future of this territory.
At the same time one more important case was stressed during the briefing. Khorguani said that officially the territory of the Botanic garden counts 128 squire hectares, but the present authorities of the Garden said it is only 98. It is not clear were the other 30 hectares were lost. She underlined that the Botanic Garden is not a small park constructed by the National Movement to beatify the city; this is a heritage of our nation.
