Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan bishop of Abkhazia and Pitsunda, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II met with Russian Patriarch Kirill in Kiev.
"This meeting may put Russian Patriarch in embarrasement, "- the Russian media informs based on the declarations made by Russian Patriarch before the meeting.
"The interstate relations are strained. But when the ties between nations of the same confession are slowing down the Church relations should be more strengthened," - Russian Patriarch said. He noted that with the time passing the political situations are changing but the people are living still side-by-side. "Politicians are rising and failing, but Church and people are remaining."
After the one and half hour meeting Patriarch Kiril said before journalists:' we discussed many very difficult questions, which are touching the situation with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It is clear that over the Abkhazia and South Ossetia territory the canonical jurisdiction of Georgian Patriarchate is."
At this meeting no canonic decisions were made. Patriarch Kiril expressed his hope that this will happen "in the future according to God's will". Such decisions will help to make order in the current disorder in ecclesiastical matters between Abkhazia and Georgia.
Ilia Second thanked Patriarch Kirill of one more recognition of the Georgian Orthodox Church Jurisdiction in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
To be noted the Russian Church currently faces problems with Romanian Christian Church and its Patriarch which established on the Russian Church land in Moldova and Ukraine the Romanian Churches. Taking this in view the Russian Church needs an Ally which may became Georgian Orthodox Church.
