Eka Beselia, leader of the Solidarity for Illegal Prisoners said the question of liability of Probation Minister Khatuna Kalmakhelidze should be discussed in connection with the death Mamuka Zerekidze, prisoner.
"Many prisoners died in the circumstances which raised doubt. This double is against the employees of penitential system. The doubt becomes even deeper, because no investigations for the cases were known for the public from the heads of this governmental body and minister, "- the statement reads.
Beselia said when minister continues being silent before the death facts, this indicates to her co-participation in the criminal actions of her employees.
"Nowadays the prisons became a polygon for the torture and inhuman and degrading treatment for the MIA and Chief Procurator's Office. Especially this should be said for the Gldani district N0 8 prison. Minister Kalmakhelidze supports such criminal actions. Once more I demand to discuss the liability question for the minister for the illegal actions which are nowadays in the penitential system, "- the Beselia's statement said.
The lawyers are demanding to conduct the fair investigation immediately and to punish all persons involved in this crime.
"From the 2010 totally 150 prisoners died in the similar conditions. We are addressing to international organizations that in Georgia the unbearable conditions are for prisoners and immediate and result oriented actions are necessary," - the statement reads.
