A meeting was held at the Georgian Foreign Ministry during which the Georgian government and a Swiss delegation discussed Russia's accession to the WTO. The meeting was held in order to prepare for the next round of Georgian-Russian bilateral negotiations.
The parties discussed the state of the Swiss-mediated negotiations between Georgia and Russia, and reviewed the potential for approximating the two countries' positions. Both also emphasized the need to ensure the normal and unimpeded functioning of the Georgian Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Moscow.
The Georgian side was represented by the Georgian Foreign Minister, Mr. Grigol Vashadze, the Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Sergi Kapanadze, the Head of the Advisors' Group (Office) of the Prime Minister, Ms. Tamar Kovziridze, the Director of the Georgian Foreign Ministry's Department for Relations with the CIS, Mr. Giorgi Karalashvili, the Head of the Minister's Secretariat, Ms. Tamar Kapanadze, and the Deputy Director of the Georgian Foreign Ministry's Department for International Organizations, Ms. Teona Giuashvili. The Swiss delegation consisted of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs' State Secretary, Mr. Peter Maurer, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs' Chef de Cabinet, Ms. Heidi Grau, the Swiss Ambassador to the WTO in Geneva, Mr. Luzius Wasescha, and the Swiss Ambassador to Georgia Mr. Guenther Baechler.
