The National Environment Agency has announced the causes of the death of fish in the River Mtkvari - the laboratory test was published today. This information Marina Arabidze, head of National Environment Agency monitoring department provided to the news agency GHN.

The experts say the heavy precipitation grew the amount of silt in the water, which in its turn reduced the concentration of oxygen in the water, causing the death of the fish.

The dead fish floated to the surface of water two days ago. Some anglers fishing at the river said the incident was caused by the water intoxication. Others said the fish was killed by lack of oxygen in the water. The samples of water and fish were taken to the laboratory for tests, which proved the second version of the death of the fish. The experts say the concentration of oxygen will return to normal state in a few days.

The different version for the fish death has a newspaper "Alia". One of the builders revealed that to the river the acid leaked.

"It is well known that the construction works for the Presidential residence is not accomplished yet. Nevertheless the tunnel construction is over which connects the river bank with the Presidential temple. We were not actually employed on this construction works but we been informed form our co-workers that the tunnel was not constructed as usual over the explosion. It was made over the special acid which destroys the banks and empties the territory, "- the construction workers said.

The nitric acid destroys the solid soil and makes it crumbly, it is very toxic. It was leaked to the river and caused fish death.

For information, on August 15 in the river large amount of dead fish was found.
