RAND Corporation's, USA research organization head in European Security questions Stefan Laber said that the situation in S.O. and Abkhazia can be changed only over the military intervention. He said to News.az that for the West Georgia is not an important question as it was in 2008.
"This is caused by the reason that the change of the status quo in Abkhazia and S.O. now is very difficult. Despite they are part of Georgian Republic in law; these Republics became satellite republics for Russian Federation. To change such situation without military tools is impossible. Nevertheless nobody is ready for change of the deadlocked status quo to use a military force. The West and Georgia are keeping the strong position for misrecognition of secessionist republics, as it was the case with some countries, "- Laber said
Responding to the question of journalist "Does Georgian problem damages relations between Russia and West as it was the case after the August 2008 war?" HE replied that in this question the Obama's Administration position is very cautious, unlike it was during the Bush's Administration.
"Bush's Administration had seen Georgia as a small country in view for the democracy development support. Bush carried out an active politics in support of post soviet countries which were aspired to the Western values. The affiliation to NATO for Georgia and Ukraine remains a rhetoric's question, which is dependent upon the Russia-USA reset policy," - Laber said.
