Today on February 7, in Ukraine the second tour of Presidential elections is being held. Two main candidates are copmpeting for the post of president - Yulia Timoshenko, Prime Minister and Viktor Yanukovich, leader of "Regional Parties". During the first tour of the presidential elections, on January 17 Yanukovich and Timoshenko gained the most votes. Totally 18 candicatesparticipated in the first tour of elections.
Yaukovich received 35,36 % of votes, Yulia Timoshenko received 25,04 % of votes, Sergey Tigipko - 13,05%, Arsen Iazenuk - 6, 95 %, Viktor Yushenko - 5,45%, Peter Simonenko - 3,55%, Vladimir Litvin - 2,35%, Oleg Tiagniboka - 1,45%, Anatoli Grizenko - 1,2 %.
Other candidates receved less than 1% of votes. The activity of the population according to the latest data was 67%.
After the January 17 Presidential elections in Ukraine the international observers declared that the first tour of Presidential elections was held with accordance of all international standards.
Washington highly estimated the first tour of elections in Ukraine. According to Mark Toner, the elections in Ukraine showed the high level of democratic development.
