EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton arrived to Tbilisi within a Caucasian trip today.
The EU high commissioner hold meetings with President Saakashvili and Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and discussed the date of the beginning of negotiations on visa free and free trade relations with the European Union. At the joint press conference with President Saakashvili she underlined that she appreciates highly that had a chance to visit Georgia for the second time. He noted that Georgia achieved a big progress in commerce and performs many useful reforms in this area. The trade relations establishment is important not only for Georgia but as well for EU, she said. The bigger discussion in trade relations are expected for the Spring, she noted. She thanked georiga for the compromise which it made for the Russia's WTO entry. The Russia's entry will even more widen the trade relations with Russia for EU.
A day before the visit, eight EU member states prepared a special address to the EU commissioners at the EU Ministerial, which calls for the EU support to Georgia, imposition of visa free regime and free trade relations with the partner country. The document was prepared by Lithuania
