Today the seminar in the frames of Westminster Consortium for Parliaments and Democracy will be held in Tbilisi. The participants of the consortium will have an opportunity to share the experience between GB and Georgia in above mentioned issues. The representatives of the Georgian parliament will attend the seminar.
We remind you that the 4-years program of the Consortium stipulates the strengthening of possibilities of Georgian Parliament. The program is aimed to the support for the legislative, supervisory and representative functions of the parliament for its effective functioning. At the same time the program is for the strengthening of possibilities of Parliament apparatus workers, increasing its professional level. The program includes trainings and seminars, business travel to UK Parliament, exchange visits of Parliamentarians and so on.
The Westminster Consortium for Parliaments and Democracy is headed by the Westminster Democratic Fund, the Governance and Transparency program of the DFID - Department of Fund of International Development. It operates in five countries - Georgia, Ukraine, Lebanon, Uganda and Mozambique. The Consortium unites several organizations, the joint activity of which is directed to the strengthening of a parliamentary democracy. There are following directions in its activity: parliamentary process and management, financial supervision, accessibility of the information and support of relations between parliament and the society.
Members of the Consortium are: Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Branch of Great Britain, Foreign Relations Office of the Chamber of Commons, International Association of Lawyers, National Audit Office, Fund of Thomson Reuter, Center of Democratic Ruling of the Essex University, and Council of the Voluntary Organizations (only in Ukraine).
In Georgia local partners of the Consortium are the Caucasian School of Journalism and media management of the GIPA - Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, PMCG - Politics and Management Consulting Group, GYLA - Georgian Young Lawyers Association, Georgian Institute of political science.
Westminster Consortium for Parliaments and Democracy - is an UK organization which promotes the democracy development. The fund is founded in 1992 as a public institution, it is financed by Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The activity of the Fund is a parliamentary strengthening and a development of political parties.
