Davit Bakradze, Chair of Parliament said the imposition of limitations for the political party funding was because of its incompatibility with the international standards.
Bakradze noted that in summer the GRECO made some recommendations conserving the amendments to the Bill on Citizen's political unions, for preventing the loops in the legislation which can lead to the money laundering possibility or illegal transfer of money.
The main reason why the amendments were made was to make the legislation compatible with the CoE legislative norms. In this view GRECO experts made a range of recommendations, based on which the Bill was drafted. The draft of amendments to the law on political parties was analyzed by the Council of Europe's advisory body for legal and constitutional affairs, Venice Commission and OSCE which said that new regulations address "many international standards".
Concerning the oppositions comments in this respect, Bakraze said he is ready to discuss them. He said the law is not aimed to restrict anybody.
To be noted, the new legal rule emerged as a result of amendments which impose the same restrictions to persons and its family members having a political aims, as to political parties.
