Today on February 21 in the first Sunday of Great Lent, the Orthodox Church celebrates the "Triumph of Orthodoxy". The Church celebrates today the victory of iconodules over the iconoclastic movement.

The iconoclastic movement aroused in the I-st half of the VIII century AD. It lasted almost a century. The end to this was made by the Queen Theodora. She proclaimed the restoration of icons. She returned Orthodox Christians expatriated from the country. In 842 local Ecclesiastical Council Sitting which was based upon materials of VII World Ecclesiastical Assembly, condemned the iconoclastic inclinations, restored the iconodule and proclaimed the "Triumph of Orthodoxy". Since that day the Orthodox Church celebrates this day in the first Sunday of Great Lent.
Great Lent started on February 15, it will last till April 4 on Easter.
