A military prosecutor in Poland has shot himself after making a statement
defending the work of his office. Col. Mikolaj Przybyl shot himself on the head on Monday after meeting reporters at his office in Poznan. Hospital director Leslaw Lenartowicz said Przybyl is in stable condition and his life is not in danger.
At the meeting with reporters, Przybyl objected to plans of putting military prosecutors under civilian authority. He said military prosecutors were involved in many probes into organized crime within the army and denied media suggestions that they broke the law while investigating the 2010 crash of the presidential plane in Russia when President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others were killed.
