The statements made by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at his meeting with Media are in the focus of Western media. New agency France Press has emphasized the formation of a new non-political organization by famous Russian public figures, writers and journalist, which aims to control presidential elections. Boris Akunin, Georgian by origin, is among them.
The author of the article disapproves the fact that Putin emphasized the Georgian origin of the writer and explained his criticism towards the August Georgia-Russia War to his ethnicity. France Press has also underlined Putin`s criticism towards impartial media sources operating in Russia, exemplifying his statements about the work of the Echo Moskvy, accusing him of supporting foreign interests.
`Venediktov admitted that Wednesday`s jab might have been Putin`s most public attack at the radio station yet but noted the strongman prime minister had also criticized the station in the past.
"If we are talking about semi-public things the prime minister expressed to me his extreme displeasure over Echo of Moscow`s editorial policies during the war with Georgia," he said, referring to Moscow`s five-day war with Tbilisi in 2008,` the article says.
Radio Liberty has published an interview with Russian writer of Georgian origin Boris Akunin. The article was entitled Putin vs. Akunin, in which the writer says:
`That is how he was trained in his special [KGB] school; it is his normal method of smearing an opponent. I don`t feel smeared. OK, I`m Georgian, so what? There are people of many ethnicities in our country. Actually, he was hinting that since I`m an ethnic Georgian, it means I`m an enemy of Russia. That is what he meant,` Akunin said.
CNN has also published an article covering Putin`s speeches. It emphasizes that part of the speech, when Putin admitted that war in Georgia in 2008 was the war between Russia and Georgia. It should be noted that Putin is called a dictator in this article.
`Russia`s Dictator Vladimir Putin has acknowledged that the armed conflict in August 2008 was conducted between Russia and Georgia,` CNN said.
