According to data released by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), trade between Italy and Georgia in the first ten months of 2011 increased by 72.9% compared to January-October 2011, establishing the new record of more than 183 million Euros on a yearly base.
In particular, Italian exports to Georgia increased by 19.8%, reaching 108.8 million Euros. The main sector in the Italian exports to Georgia was "machinery and mechanical appliances" (a quarter of the total). Other main sectors of the Italian exports were "mineral fuels, mineral oil and products of their distillation", "furniture" and "electrical machinery and equipment".
The data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia show a similar trend: in 2011 the bilateral trade between Italy and Georgia surged to 260.3 million USD, increasing by 62.8%.
It is worth noting that the above-mentioned increase is far higher than the 35.5% Georgian external trade general increase reached in 2011.
