On February 17th, Christian Wulff, President of Germany announced his resignation from the post of the President of Germany.
The 52-year-old Wullf commented on his decision by saying that he felt «the lack of trust from the necessary majority of the population», Deutsche Welle writes with reference to the DAPD agency.
Earlier the public prosecutor's office of Hannover filed a petition to the Bundestag with a request to relieve Wollf of the immunity for criminal proceedings.
According to the public prosecutor's office after an in-depth check of according documents as well as analyzing reports circulating in the Mass Media, the justice authorities suspected corruption to be involved. For some time now Wullf has been under a barrage of criticism, mostly because of his link to wealthy businessmen.
Meanwhile after Wullf's resignation, the need for reviewing the application from the public prosecutor's office of Hannover became unnecessary, because the immunity is only guaranteed to the current head of the state.
