The 91st anniversary of Georgia's occupation by the Russian 11th army on February 25, 1921, will be marked starting today. Various activities will take place in Tbilisi and regions of Georgia on the occasion of Occupation Week.
The first of its kind event was held at Tbilisi #52 Public School and was organized by Georgia's Ministry of Education and Science. The schoolchildren saw a documentary by a Lithuanian film director "Soviet History."
In February 1921 Georgia was attacked by the Red Army. The Georgian army was defeated and the government fled the country.
On February 25, 1921 the Red Army entered the capital Tbilisi and installed a Moscow directed communist government, led by Georgian Bolshevik Filipp Makharadze.
The Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic was established on February 25, 1921.
