Conservative US Republican Rick Santorum has won his party's primary elections in the southern states of Alabama and Mississippi - BBC reports. But it was a tight race in both states.
In Alabama, Mr Santorum was on 35%, with Newt Gingrich in second place and Mitt Romney trailing in third.
Addressing supporters in Louisiana, Mr Santorum said that the Republicans could only succeed against President Barack Obama if a conservative standpoint, such as his own, was reflected in the Republican nomination.
