Defense Secretary of the United States of America Leon Panetta visited the Georgian troops serving in Afghanistan. The Pentagon Chief met with the Georgian servicemen of the 31st light infantry battalion at the combat outpost "Shukvani" in Helmand Province.
Leon Panetta expressed appreciation for the service of the Georgian troops in Afghanistan and read a letter from LTC Alexander Tugushi who commanded this battalion and was wounded in Afghanistan.
LTC Alexander Tughushi is undergoing rehabilitation course in the United States, in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda. The 31st Battalion has been serving in Afghanistan since November 2011. The Georgian military servicemen are participating in the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) mission under the US contingent in Helmand province.
