Toulouse killer Mohamed Merah was buried in the Muslim section of the Cornebarrieu cemetery in Toulouse on March 29.
Algerian born, Merah's tomb is to remain unmarked. The funeral was attended by the local Imam and Paris Grand Mosque representative, Abdallah Zekri. Having requested Merah's burial in Algeria but having come up against Algiers' firm refusal, none of Merah's family were present.
The choice of burial grounds sparked serious contention between Paris, Toulouse and Algiers, with mayor of Toulouse Pierre Cohen having initially refused to grant Merah burial in the city, www.liveleak.com reported.
The deadlock was finally broken by president Nicolas Sarkozy's direct intervention, who mandated the young terrorist's burial "as a Frenchman" in Toulouse, ordering an end to "any further diatribe."
