The Georgian Foreign department sent an official note to the Russian Federation by mediation of the embassy of Switzerland regarding the oldest graves of Bagrationi (Georgian royal dynasty). The Georgian party requests to stop the construction on Vsvesviatkoe cemetery.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nino Kalandadze said during a briefing on Monday that the Georgian party will try to obtain full information about work taking place on the graves and if it's confirmed, the Russian party will be requested to stop the constructions.
"Thereafter, we'll ask Russia to raise the issue of transferring the remains", Nino Kalandadze said.
The oldest grave of Bagrationis faces threat in Vsvesviatkoe in Russia.
Moscow high ranking officials discovered illicit construction in the vicinity of the temple constructed by Queen Darejan where Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani and other Georgian figures are buried.
There is no permission for the construction. The temple is on the list of the protected monuments of the Russian federation and Russian Cultural heritage protection department decided to remove the structures. The temple was built in Vsvesviatkoe in 1733-1736.
