April 11 is declared a Day of Mourning in Georgia. The decision has been adopted by the Georgia president regarding the tragic death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and senior members of the Polish government. National flags have been lowered at state building, including the parliament and the President`s Palace.
Furthermore, according to Mikheil Saakashvili`s decree, the Polish President has been posthumously granted a Title of National Hero of Georgia for his great merit at the country.
Georgian citizens have been flocking to the Polish Embassy in Tbilisi since morning. They are bringing there flowers to commemorate the people killed in the plane crash.
The Polish Ambassador has also made a statement for journalists. Ursula Doroshevska thanked the Georgian population, citizens, who are going to the embassy and expressing their condolences to the Polish people.
`Poland is crying today. We have declared one-week mourning. People are praying for souls of the dead. We know Georgia has also taken to heart out tragedy and a Mourning Day has been declared here as well. We can feel, residents of Tbilisi are standing beside us. I thinks, Mr. Kaczynski was the person, who consolidated our nations and supported independence of the both countries`, Ursula Doroshevska said.
Georgian state officials will be arriving at the Polish Embassy all day long.
