President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili participated in the Young Atlanticist Summit in Chicago in the frames of the NATO summit. President delivered a speech before the young Atlanticists and spoke about the reforms implemented in Georgia and the process of political transformation.
President emphasized the activities carried out by Georgia against corruption and crimes in the country. Mikheil Saakashvili said governmental delegations from various countries were arriving in Georgia to get familiarized with successful reforms in Georgia.
President also touched Georgia-Russia relations and the situation in the occupied regions.
The Young Atlanticist Summit is one of the main diplomatic events of the 2012 Chicago Summit, which is attended by young leaders. The goal of the summit is to discuss future challenges and determine priorities. The YA Program is dedicated to identifying and connecting the next generation of leaders in the Atlantic community, and beyond.
After his speech at the Summit, President Saakashvili answered the questions of the audience, which mostly touched the role of Georgia in the region, energy-security issues and conflicts. Young Atlanticists also put questions to Georgian president about Georgia-NATO relations and the prospects of the country for Euro-Atlantic integration.
President holds bilateral meetings in Chicago. Georgian delegation chaired by the president met with the European Commission`s president and the EU Council`s authorities. American Senators reaffirmed support to Georgia`s aspirations to join the alliance once again along with the European authorities.
The informal part of the visit of the president to Chicago was the bicycle tour along the Michigan Lake. President rode the same tour, which was ridden by the NATO Secretary General two days before. Saakashvili said the Batumi Boulevard would be arranged similarly and its length would soon be 23 kilometers.
Georgian delegation chaired by President Saakashvili will participate in all major events of the summit today. Leaders of over 60 countries are participating in the NATO Chicago Summit.
