Today Georgia marks Independence Day. A new parliament building of Georgia will be opened this afternoon in Kutaisi, administrative capital of Georgia's western Imereti region.
The author of the project Spanish architect Alberto Domingo Kabo created a special concept - modern architecture combined with traditional Georgian elements.
The 7-floor building comes into the center of a complex extended across 4 thousand hectares of territory. The glass building has a 4-meter-high cupola. There are 271 rooms in the building and 11 conference halls.
A festive parliamentary session will be held in Kutaisi in the new building of Georgian parliament today.
The parliamentary sitting will start at 5 PM and it will be attended by representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia. Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili will deliver a speech as part of the session. The session will last for an hour.
The Parliament of Georgia was granted the right to conduct a session in Kutaisi after making amendments to the rules on May 22.
The hall of the Kutaisi parliament building is already ready for parliamentary sessions. Georgian Parliamentary Vice-Speaker Mikheil Machavariani alleges that the President has already issued a decree with regard to today's session.
A military parade will be held in Kutaisi starting 6 PM on the occasion of May 26, Independence Day of Georgia.
Along with infantry battalions, armored equipment will also take part in the parade, including military vehicles produced in Georgia -- fighting vehicle "Lazika," armored vehicle "Didgori," a modified model of "Didgori" and Georgian volley gun. Tanks will also be presented as part of the activity.
A general rehearsal was held on May 25 in preparation of the event. Anti-aircrafts and artillery systems and tanks were seen at the rehearsal. Rehearsal of the military parade was held on May 23too.
After the parade, classical music gala concert will be staged under open sky in Kutaisi with participation of Georgian and foreign performers.
Georgian industrial parade "Made in Georgia" will be held at central Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi today on the occasion of Independence Day of Georgia. The event will be attended by Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava and Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili.
More than 250 companies will take part in the parade. Various products will be represented, including furniture, building materials, electrical and computer appliances, textile, metal items, drugs, metro wagons, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, tea and food products and military vehicles - all made in Georgia.
The enterprise event is aimed at popularization of Georgian production and its export, development of Georgian economics and creation of job places. Everyone can attend the event. Citizens will be able to buy products they like.
A Flower Festival will be held at April 9 Garden in Tbilisi today. About 70 companies will take part. Viewers will have the opportunity to buy different kinds of plants as part of the activity.
A gala-concert will be held at renovated Marjanishvili Square in Tbilisi. The gala-concert will begin at 9 PM. Attendance is free.
The stage, lighting and audio equipment was installed last evening. "Sukhishvilebi" National Ballet Ensemble and National Symphonic Orchestra will perform before the audience.
