Protests have erupted across Syria after Friday's massacre of at least 100 people, many of them children, in the town of Houla.
With international outrage mounting, the UN Security Council unanimously condemned the Syrian government for what it called ‘heavy-weapons attacks'.
Even Russia's UN representative Alexander Pankin added his voice:
"We are really concerned and outraged about what happened yesterday and the day before yesterday and it clearly need an investigation before the council could take action, or react the way it reacted now (...)
It's true that General Mood established the evidence that tanks were there and heavy artillery was used there."
But Russia is still calling for further clarification. Meanwhile Special Envoy Kofi Annan is to seek a meeting with Syria's President Bashar al Assad over the status of the supposed ceasefire.
As if to underscore the break down of the truce which is part of Annan's peace plan, there are yet more reports of shelling, this time in Hama where at least 30 people are said to have been killed.
