Prof. Nestan Kirtadze continued her intensive programme of visits and meetings in Brussels, presenting Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Ossetian House and its initiatives to various potential partners.
Prof. Kirtadze took part in the conference "After Chicago: Re-evaluating NATO's priorities", discussing prospective role of the organisation in the region's future with top NATO's officials, diplomats and experts. Javier Solana, former head of Common Security and Foreign Policy mechanism of the European Union, welcomed arrival of Prof. Kirtadze to Brussels, marking importance of developing integration in the region via economic, social and cultural cooperation between Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The keyword of the conference, repeated numerously by all speakers - "changes". Organisation indeed requires a major revamp after geopolitical map of the world experienced colossal changes - collapse of the Soviet Union, global terrorism (including cyberterrorism) and Arab Spring. However expanding scope of NATO's responsibilities risks functional overlap with the European Union.
Prof. Kirtadze also met with Dr. Stefan Gehrold, Director of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and discussed potential support of the Georgian-Ossetian and Georgian-Abkhazian House projects with financial resources of the foundation. Mr. Gehrold will make an introduction for Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Ossetian House to the central office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Berlin.
Chairman of IBM Europe, Harry van Dorenmalen, expressed his interest in delivering speech at the conference of Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Ossetian House at the European Parliament in September.
"We will be happy to make our input in evolvement of peaceful dialogue in the region of Southern Caucasus" - highlighted Mr Pierre Sondergaard, Policy Officer of Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDE). Cooperation and potential projects to be implemented together in near future for empowering peace building process in the region were discussed. ALDE officially invited Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Ossetian House to become its full member.
Next destination on the agenda of Prof. Kirtadze - capital of the most economically powerful state in the European Union, engine of economic growth of the continent - Germany. In Berlin she will held high level meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,. diplomatic corpus, responsible for carrying out dialogue with the region of Southern Caucasus
