On Monday, June 4 U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin, Ambassador Michael Kozak, and U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John R. Bass will meet with Georgian civil society leaders at the Batumi Center for Civic Engagement (62-64 Parnavaz Mepe Street) on the eve of the Strategic Partnership Commission meetings in Batumi.
During the roundtable meeting, the group will discuss the election environment in Georgia, transparency and accountability in government and the judiciary, inter-ethnic issues, and challenges facing civil society, media and labor unions. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Eric Rubin and Ambassador Michael Kozak will co-chair the Strategic Partnership Commission Democracy Working Group.
The United States Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has opened and supports ten Centers for Civic Engagement in different cities of Georgia, including Batumi, to facilitate civic discourse and engagement in Georgia.
