The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) denied allegations that police officers are fired from their posts on political grounds.
The attempt to search for political motives in conventional rotation at the Patrol Police Department is completely groundless and unclear, a statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs says.
According to the statement, rotation, as periodical relocation of police officers with different ranks and positions is aimed at improving effectiveness of service: Staff distribution is also an opportunity for on-site training and requirement.
‘Such common practice was implemented from the period when police reform was initiated and is currently held on a regular basis at Patrol and Criminal Police Departments. In May-June of 2011, 194 patrol police officers were relocated, while only 150 transferred in the same period of the current year.
A total of 35 linear Patrol Police officers were relocated in the subway division and 20 officers were transferred from the same division to linear Patrol Police. Eight Police Academy graduates were appointed and 32 officers, former policemen at the moment, refused staff rotation and resigned', the statement says.
