Dramatic pictures from a US coastguard helicopter show one of the 16 crew of the replica HMS Bounty being winched to safety from the stormy Atlantic Ocean.
Fourteen crew have been rescued from the imitation tall ship which was built for the 1962 movie "Mutiny on the Bounty".
The vessel sank in the path of Hurricane Sandy on Monday, about 150 kilometres off the North Carolina coast.
Two of the crew are still missing after being washed overboard as they abandoned ship. An expanded air search is underway but hopes are fading of finding them alive.
As well as its role in the Hollywood classic starring Marlon Brando, the replica HMS Bounty also appeared in one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
The original British ship achieved infamy for an onboard revolt in 1789 in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
