The nation of Poland bade farewell to their late president Lech Kaczynski and the first lady Maria Kaczynski - the president and the first lady were buried in Wavell Cathedral beside the Silver Ring Tower in Krakow yesterday. Only family of the president attended the ceremony inside the Palace. From foreign delegations only Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and Sandra Roelofs were present at the ceremony.
Georgian President`s plane was delayed, diverted through Rome, and the Russian leader was spared the embarrassment of sitting next to his arch-enemy in church. Mr Saakashvili counted himself one of Mr Kaczynski's closest friends - the Pole had travelled to Georgia to demonstrate his support in the conflict with Russia - and arrived in Krakow in time to kneel at the new tomb in the Wavell.
After the ceremony, Georgian president walked in the Streets of Krakow and gave a brief interview with a local television. The Poles applauded to the president and thanked him. Mikheil Saakashvili said the late president was a hero.
`It was my obligation to be here today,` Georgian president said.
