Minister of Justice of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani spoke about her approach to the cases of former defense minister Bacho Akhalaia and the former chief of staff of armed forces, Giorgi Kalandadze in the interview with the weekly analytical program Courier P.S. on Rustavi 2 yesterday. Former minister remains in custody, while Kalandadze was bailed out by the court ruling. He was afterwards returned to his position by president Saakashvili, however, the court satisfied the next motion of the prosecutor`s office and suspended authority to Kalandadze and another detainee, the commander of the fourth battalion Zurab Shamatava on Sunday.
Tsulukiani says when she was signing the decision on detention of Kalandadze, she did it on the grounds of one crime only, as the evidence on another charges were not confirmed, but she expects the allegations against Kalandadze will be presented in a few days.
Minister also said the court ruling on bailing out Kalandadze was not legally incorrect, but she defined that the same court had sent people for light crimes to prisons as usual, and therefore, this decision was political.
Tsulukiani says the person, who abuses soldiers, cannot remain on the position of the chief of staff of armed forces.
Justice Minister also spoke about the detention of former defense minister, saying his charges may soon be increased due to the new evidence obtained by prosecutors.
