Five law enforcers of the Constitutional Security Department and the Special Operative Department have been arrested after 17 hour-long interrogation early on Thursday morning. The head of the CSD Levan Kardava and senior officer of the same department Giorgi Kavlashvili are among the detainees. Kardava has been charged with articles N143 and 333 of the criminal code of Georgia, which implies abuse of duties and illegal confinement.
The lawyers made definitions for media after the interrogations, saying the detention is tied with the scandal of the former body-guard of current Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, Beso Surmava, in which Kardava is accused, while Giorgi Kavlashvili is accused of deliberate damage of the Kartu Group property and misuse of authority, which envisages three year sentence.
Minister of Interior Irakli Gharibashvili and Chief Prosecutor, Archil Kbilashvili were attending interrogation, after which the accused persons were transferred to pre-trial insulator.
