Latvian diplomat has found himself involved in a political scandal. According to the report of the Latvian television, the consul of Latvia, Gundegas Smutengas was recalled by the Latvian Foreign Ministry a week ago due to the allegations, which said that the consul requested precious gifts and jewellery from Georgian citizens for granting visas of Latvia to them. The consul is accused of being involved in corruption.

Latvian Foreign Ministry says the investigation is in progress. There are presumptions that the doubts about the corruption deals of the consule arose after one of the citizens of Georgia was refused visa without grounds. The person, who was refused visa, complained publicly that the Latvian consul demanded precious gifts for granting visas and the investigation began.
