High-profile investigations, staff changes, domestic and foreign policy issues and relations with media were the issues, on which Prime Minister was answering questions of media today. Bidzina Ivanishvili met with the representatives of local media at the Expo Georgia Center today.
The meeting lasted two hours and a half and Prime Minister answered about forty questions. Prime Minister even debated with some journalists slamming them for incompetent work and incorrect covering of events.
Prime Minister was first of all asked about the scandal of the sex video release, for which deputy minister of interior was arrested. Journalists reminded Ivanishvili his own statement before the investigation was over, when he said the development of scandal was very alike of the methods of United National Movement. Ivanishvili defined that he did not change his position and explained that the archive of private life videos was made indeed in the period when UNM ruled the country.
PM hailed the change of the approach of international society towards the work of Georgia`s new government thanks to the visits of the authorities abroad.
He said it took six months to overcome the misinformation and lies spread by the UNM and their leaders on international arena and now the international society was well informed about the processes in the country. He exemplified numerous visits of the EU envoy to Georgia Thomas Hammarberg, who monitored the work of the prosecutor`s office attentively.
`The international community has acknowledged our strategic visions very well, ` Ivanishvili said.
Prime Minister also downplayed the reports made by the UNM leaders about economic crisis in the country. He had there was no crisis accusing opponents of spreading lies about the situation in this sector.
Prime Minister also denied the possibility of one party rule in case the National Movement collapsed. Ivanishvili said he did not expect such process, however, if it happened so anyway, no threat of one-party rule was feasible as the ruling coalition consisted of several parties and the coalition would pass the natural process of separation.
Prime Minister has also slammed President Saakashvili accusing him of swindle when he stated that Ivanishvili paid two millions for the video of prisoners` torture. He said he could file a lawsuit against him for swindle, but he added he no longer paid attention to president`s statement due to the lack of time.
Bidzina Ivanishvili praised the presidential candidate of the Georgian Dream coalition today. He said he was happy for making such a `discovery` as Giorgi Margvelashvili.
`This man is distinguished with his state thinking, he is a man thinking not about improvement of his personal comfort or taking a position, but the one who can think globally about the state and its prospects. I have very rarely met a person like him, may be two or three,` Ivanishvili said.
As for the reports about his possible visit to the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014, Ivanshvili said no decision was taken about this yet and it greatly depended on the development of relations with Russia.
