The father of a missing Toronto teenager was released on $50,000 bail yesterday morning after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing a neighbour.
Vakhtang Makhniashvili was granted a conditional release Monday after spending the weekend in the Toronto West Detention Centre. The terms of his bail require constant supervision and prohibit him from coming within 500 metres of his alleged victims, who live in on the same floor of his apartment building -- meaning he cannot return home.
The accused is alleged to have banged on the door of his neighbour`s apartment at around 7:30 Friday evening -- reportedly over a noise complaint -- before forcibly entering and allegedly stabbing the 26-year-old resident in the stomach. He was restrained by other residents and guests of the victim until police arrived.
Police said the 50-year old Georgian immigrant may have been having a `hard time` Friday, when he became agitated over the discovery of some human remains in Scarborough--remains that he believed could belong to his missing 18-yearold daughter, Mariam.
