Yesterday, 6 February, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili met with Secretary
General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland. The meeting was held at the
Chancellery of the Government. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili thanked the
guest for his contribution in the development of the Action Plan, informs GHN.
The sides discussed
intensive cooperation between Georgia and the European Council and the
objectives to be implemented within the Action Plan. Self-government reforms,
human rights, rule of law, situation in terms of democracy and the plans for
future were also discussed.
It lays the
foundation for the agreed priority areas, notably the promotion of human rights
and their protection on the basis of the European Convention on Human Rights,
strengthening the independence and effectiveness of the Criminal Justice
Reform, promoting local democracy and self-government reform - reported Prime
Minister's Press Service.
The concern over
the temporary extension of the so-called border line and the process of
barbwire installation was also expressed at the meeting.
