The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement with regard to the
facilitation of entry procedures by the occupied territory of Abkhazia.
According to the Foreign Ministry, on February 10 it was reported that by the
decision of Moscow and its occupation regime the entry procedures were
simplified for foreigners entering Abkhazia from Russia during the Olympic
Games. The Ministry says that this decision is yet another provocative action
against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and is intended to
mislead the citizens of foreign countries.
As
reported by Interpressnews The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia once
again calls national delegations and citizens participating in the Olympics to
refrain from traveling to the occupied regions of Georgia.
"In
particular, foreign citizens are only permitted to enter: a) the territory of
the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia from Zugdidi municipality; b) the
Tskhinvali region from Gori municipality," says the statement of the
Foreign Ministry.
According
to the Ministry, the violation of the Law on Occupied Territories is punishable
by the Criminal Code of Georgia.
